Thai Credit Bank Launches “Yaek Dee, Mee Credit” Project, Transform Minburi Market into a Prototype Green Market, Driving the Circular Economy and Turning Waste into Extra Income for Vendors

Thai Credit Bank Public Company Limited continues its ESG commitments into action with the launch of the “Yaek Dee, Mee Credit” project at Minburi Market, the first pilot market. The initiative project aims to promote the sorting of recyclable waste and used cooking oil to maximize their value under the Circular Economy concept turning discarded materials into extra income for small vendors while elevating fresh markets into Green Markets, reinforcing the Bank’s “Everyone Matters” philosophy.

The “Yaek Dee, Mee Credit” project is a collaboration between Thai Credit Bank PCL, Wastebuy Delivery Co., Ltd., and Minburi Market. It introduces a digital platform for purchasing recyclable waste and used cooking oil directly at vendors’ stalls, reducing the time and cost of transporting recyclable materials for sale while converting leftover materials into supplementary income encouraging vendors to take part in sustainable waste management.

First Day Results: Immediate Carbon Reduction Equivalent to Planting 125 Trees

The success on its launch day clearly reflects that the “Yaek Dee, Mee Credit” project is not just an environmental campaign, but a foundation for a real Circular Economy in the daily lives of market vendors. Prior to the launch, Thai Credit Bank hosted a hands-on workshop to educate business owners at Minburi Market on proper waste sorting and recycling. This led to impressive results from day one, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1,190.61 kgCO₂e, equivalent to planting over 125 fully grown trees. A total of 856.60 kilograms of recyclable waste and used cooking oil were collected, transforming leftover materials into supplementary income for market vendors immediately. This proves that small behavioral changes can create a significant positive impact, reducing community waste, protecting the environment, and generating income simultaneously.

A representative of a local vendor reflected on the project:

“Previously, we never thought that the waste in front of our shops had any value. But when Thai Credit Bank set up an easily accessible collection point in the market, we immediately saw the value of sorting waste. Besides our shops being cleaner and the amount of waste decreasing, we also gained additional income.” It’s also possible to turn waste into cash, and most importantly, I feel proud to be a part of helping to take care of the environment in a simple way every day.”

Continuing Support and Fostering Learning Through Activities

To support the sustainable operation of the project, Thai Credit Bank provided two sets of waste-sorting bins along with a dedicated “Yaek Dee, Mee Credit” tent to serve as a collection point and information dissemination area within the market, along with an on-site team offering close guidance to vendors. The bank also organized the “Sort It Right… Get Credit” activity, through a simulated waste sorting game which vendors randomly drew balls representing different waste types and sorted them into the correct bins, receiving souvenirs in return. This created a fun, easy-to-understand learning environment that can be practically applied in daily life.

Next Step: Expanding the Green Market Network Nationwide

The pilot project at Minburi Market serves as an important starting point in creating a “Green Market Prototype.” that focuses on systematic waste management alongside with turning recyclable materials into added value. This not only reduces environmental impact but also improves the quality of life for small business owners. Thai Credit Bank plans to expand the project to its network of fresh markets nationwide to create a sustainable green market society that grows in economic, community, and environmental dimensions.

The “Yaek Dee, Mee Credit” project reflects Thai Credit Bank’s commitment to creating shared value for the economy, society, and environment through tangible collaboration with partners and local communities. To contribute to sustainable development under the philosophy “Everyone Matters,” the Bank believes that every act of waste sorting is the starting point for carbon reduction, generating additional income, and paving the way to a sustainable future for everyone.
