Agoda Reveals Europe’s 2026 Summer Travel Interest to Asia: Bangkok, Koh Samui, and Pattaya Among the Top Cities

Digital travel platform Agoda has unveiled its ranking of European travel interest to Asia, drawing on accommodation search data from April to June 2026 for travel during July and August. For Europeans, July and August mark the height of summer and a peak travel period, when schools break and holiday plans come to life.

In 2026, Three major Thai cities rank among the region’s top five destinations in 2026: Bangkok holds the number one spot, Koh Samui climbs from fourth place last year to third, and Pattaya rounds out the top five.

While Bali holds firmly onto the number two spot for a second consecutive year, Tokyo secures fourth place, underscoring Japan’s continued pull for European travelers.

The findings are based on Agoda’s accommodation search data for European travelers considering summer stays across Asia. Thailand holds firmly onto the top spot for a second consecutive year, cementing its status as Europe’s clear favorite Asian summer destination. Indonesia’s jump from third place last year to second place this year reflects sustained global interest in Bali and growing curiosity about the wider archipelago. Japan remains firmly in the top three and continues to attract notable interest across European markets. Vietnam’s rise to fourth from fifth place last year underscores its growing profile as a must-visit destination, while Malaysia rounds out the top five.

In Europe, Germany, France, and the Netherlands remain the top three origin markets searching for Thailand during summer for a second consecutive year. Spain and Italy round out the top five for 2026.

Across the top 20 destinations, India saw the most notable year-on-year growth in European searches at 14%, followed by South Korea at 13% and Vietnam at 12%. These three markets stand out as the region’s fastest-rising for European summer travel interest, pointing to a growing appetite for diverse itineraries beyond Asia’s traditional hotspots.

Akaporn Rodkong, Country Director, Thailand and Indochina at Agoda said: “Thailand holding the top spots for a second year, with similar origin markets and three cities across the top five, points to something deeper than a seasonal spike. European travelers have built Thailand into their annual routine. Having Bangkok, Koh Samui, and Pattaya all represented also shows the draw isn’t a single experience, it’s a country offering something different depending on what travelers are looking for. At Agoda, we are excited to help more travelers discover their own version of Asia, wherever that takes them.”
