PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), a global leader in chemicals and Thailand’s first commercial producer of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), has announced a partnership with Siam Piwat Group to expand the “From Kitchen to Creation” project. Under this initiative, used cooking oil (UCO) from restaurants within Siam Paragon will be collected and sent to GC’s biorefinery to be processed into clean energy and high-value bio-products, marking Siam Paragon as the first shopping mall in Thailand to join the program.
This collaboration has scaled up the scope of the project beyond initial partnerships with communities and local government networks towards commercial restaurants in large shopping malls. The program seeks to establish a systematic waste management pipeline that integrates UCO directly into GC’s biorefinery value chain. Following the pilot launch at Siam Paragon, the project has been expanded to Siam Center and Siam Discovery, currently delivering up to 800 kilograms of UCO per month to GC.
Mr. Ratchada Sawasdirak, Senior Vice President – Refinery at GC’s Refinery Business Unit, stated, “This collaboration under the ‘From Kitchen to Creation’ project builds upon GC’s success as the country’s first commercial SAF producer. By using used cooking oil as a primary feedstock, we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 85% compared to conventional aviation fuel, while also producing high-value biochemicals and bioplastics.”
“Siam Paragon’s participation as our first retail partner reflects the expansion of GC’s circular economy model into the business sector, tangibly transforming food waste into resources for our biorefinery.”
Ms. Naratipe Ruttapradid, Chief Operating Officer of Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., stated, “Siam Piwat seeks to develop a shopping mall platform that achieves growth alongside sustainability across every aspect of the operations. This partnership with GC on the “From Kitchen to Creation” Project underscores our end-to-end waste management approach under the ‘Siam Piwat 360° Waste Journey to Zero Waste’ initiative, which aims to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2040. By redirecting used cooking oil from the restaurants inside our malls into the biorefinery process, we’re preventing food waste from impacting the environment and turning waste into a tangible, valuable resource.”
“This project not only systematically elevates the management of cooking waste but also empowers our restaurant partners to participate in the circular economy and support the nation’s transition to clean energy, in line with Siam Piwat’s commitment to sustainable business practices.”
The collaboration underscores GC’s leadership in developing an integrated biorefinery value chain with the capability to produce SAF, biochemicals, and bioplastics, all of which serve as sustainable alternatives for the manufacturing of products used in everyday life, reflecting the company’s commitment to advancing the circular economy and making a sustainable difference. The partnership also highlights Siam Piwat’s position as the developer and operator of world-class destinations that serve not only as a model for 360° waste management but also as a vital platform that encourages retailers and consumers to adopt sustainable habits. The ultimate goal is to advance tangible waste management and reduction in daily life and empower everyone to play an active role as a member of society in restoring environmental balance, thereby fostering Thailand’s long-term sustainability.
